On September 19, the 4th IEEE Power Electronics Society (IEEE PELS) Asia Student Forum and Academic Report Competition (SSPEL-Asia) was successfully held in Chengdu.
This event is co-hosted by the IEEE PELS China Membership Committee, the International Exchange Committee of China Power Supply Society, the Academic Committee of China Power Supply Society, and the School of Electrical Engineering of Southwest Jiaotong University; co-organized by the National Rail Transit Electrification and Automation Engineering Technology Research Center(NEEC), the School of Integrated Circuit Science and Engineering of Southwest Jiaotong University, the IEEE PELS Southwest Jiaotong University Student Chapter, Sichuan Power Electronics Society, IEEE PELS Chengdu Chapter and Xi'an Chapter, with 22 university student chapters under IEEE PELS China providing support. The event aims to promote exchanges and development among students in the field of power electronics across Asia, and encourage young talents in this field to engage in scientific research and industrial upgrading.

This event drew 80 students from countries and regions including China, South Korea, Malaysia and Denmark to sign up for the academic report competition. Adopting a hybrid offline-online format, it attracted over 150 on-site participants, with 67 students finally competing in the contest — 37 PhD candidates, 24 master's students and 6 undergraduates. The competition invited 21 expert judges from 16 universities including Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Tianjin University, Central South University, Southeast University, Harbin Institute of Technology, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Sichuan University and Southwest Jiaotong University to form the judging panel.
The General Chair of this conference is Prof. He Xiao-qiong, Member of the IEEE PELS Executive Committee, Deputy Director of NEEC, and Chairman of Sichuan Power Electronics Society. Prof. Yang Tao, Vice President of IEEE PELS from the University of Nottingham, UK, Professor Sun Kai, IEEE PELS Asia-Pacific Chair, IEEE PELS China Membership Committee Chair, IEEE Fellow from Tsinghua University, and Prof. Ma Guang-tong, Dean of the School of Electrical Engineering of Southwest Jiaotong University, delivered speeches respectively.

This event specially invited Prof. He Jin-wei from Tianjin University, and Prof. Sun Yao, Executive Vice Dean of the School of Electrical Engineering of Central South University, to host the youth special sessions. Prof. Song Wen-sheng, Vice Dean of the School of Integrated Circuit Science and Engineering of Southwest Jiaotong University, delivered an excellent report titled Digital Twin Modeling and Application Exploration of Power Electronic Equipment; Professor Ding Li from Harbin Institute of Technology, gave a wonderful presentation titled Research on Wide-Speed-Range Operation Strategy of High-Frequency Current-Source PMSM Systems.

The competition was divided into 7 parallel sessions (4 groups for doctoral students, 3 groups for master's and undergraduate students). The contest site was full of highlights, where participating students and expert judges had in-depth exchanges and discussions on the latest achievements in the field of power electronics.

This academic report competition awarded 7 "Best Innovation Awards", 7 "Best Presentation Awards", 14 "Second Prize of Presentation Award", 21 "Third Prize of Presentation Award" and 18 "Participation Awards". The Best Innovation Award winners are Wang Cheng-jin from Tianjin University, Shen Le-wen from Southwest Jiaotong University, Hong Kang from Central South University, Feng Yi-chen from Tsinghua University, Xu Rui from Zhejiang University, Wang Ming-yue from Shandong University and Yang Teng-fei from Hefei University of Technology.
