On September 21, the 2026 Undergraduate Opening Ceremony of the School of Electrical Engineering was held at the Xipu Campus. The ceremony was attended by Academician Gao Shibin, Mr. Ma Guangtong, Dean of the School of Electrical Engineering, Mr. Wang Bin, Party Secretary of the school, Mr. Fang Zhi-guo, off-campus career mentor representative, 1998 alumnus and Deputy Chief Engineer of Electrification Design and Research Institute of China Railway Siyuan Survey and Design Group Co., Ltd., Mr. Xing Xiao-peng, Deputy Party Secretary, Mr.Yan Pu-long, Deputy Party Secretary, Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission, Mr. Liu Zhi-gang, Vice Dean of the School of Electrical Engineering, Mr. Liao Kai, Vice Dean, Mr. Han Ying, Vice Dean, Ms. Yang Ping, Director of Discipline and Talent Affairs, Mr. Ge Xinglai, Head of the Department of Power Electronics and Power Drives, Mr. Liu Wei, Deputy Head of the Department of Power Engineering, Ms. Zhang Yi, Secretary of the Youth League Committee and Deputy Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission, all 2026 undergraduate class tutors, all counselors, and all new undergraduate students.
Academician Gao stated that the faculty will accompany the students throughout their entire university growth journey. He expects the students to "pursue genuine learning and engage in practical work", cherish their prime time, achieve academic success, and grow into electrical talents capable of shouldering the important responsibilities of the era.
On behalf of the school, Dean Ma Guangtong extended a warm welcome to the 583 new 2026 undergraduate students, and introduced the general situation of the school to the students from five dimensions: historical heritage, faculty strength, scientific research achievements, academic atmosphere construction, and talent cultivation outcomes.
Alumnus Fang Zhi-guo reviewed his study days at SWJTU and his years of dedicated work in the industry. Drawing on insights from front-line work, he encouraged new students to cherish their college years, study diligently, and hone their professional skills. He hoped that students would stay true to their original aspiration of serving the country, cultivate the fine quality of taking practical actions and assuming responsibilities, grow based on the characteristics of the electrical discipline, and bravely shoulder the important tasks of the era's development.
