On November 21, the Chinese Academy of Engineering announced the list of newly elected academicians for 2025. Prof. Gao Shi-bin from the School of Electrical Engineering at Southwest Jiaotong University was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

Prof. Gao has been dedicated to theoretical research and technological innovation in the field of rail transit traction power supply for over 30 years. He led the development of a series of major equipment, including the integrated power supply protection-control-dispatch system for high-speed rail, the complete set of high-speed pantograph safety detection-diagnosis-maintenance technology and equipment, and the high-voltage, high-capacity energy-saving core-type traction transformer. These innovations have addressed key engineering challenges such as reliable power supply, power supply safety, and energy efficiency in high-speed rail.
